BGC Strathcona County Celebrates 20 Years!

September 21, 2001 marks the first day of programming to support kids in Strathcona County with BGC. The Boys and Girls Club began with less than 10 kids and a handful of staff. We ran out of one location that kids walked to after school, offering PD Days for as little as one family and only camping trip summer camps.

We have had kids grow up through our programs to become staff, and we have had staff grow through our programs to see the club grow. We even have staff that have grown up enough to send their children to the programs they are so proud of. Our Executive Admin Team are shown here as Program Staff where they learned to love and care for the programs that they now have team members managing!

Today, we support over 1800 children and youth, spreading wide across both rural and urban Strathcona County in six Before and After School Care programs, a Youth Centre for free drop in, and nature based exploration program for our little ones. We offer affordable rec programs, interleague play, summer camps for three different age categories, and PD Day Support for over 120 children a day. It is possible now for a child to experience BGC every year of their life from age 3 until 18 when they can work for the programs that they attended as a child.

We are so thankful for the support that we've been given throughout our 20 years in Strathcona County. Endless community partners, changing governments, contributing families, and amazing support from our community has allowed us to be there for Strathcona County when they've needed it. We are forever grateful for the incredible relationships that we've made with children and their families, and look forward to what another 20 years in Strathcona County will bring us.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
